KantCon’s Kickstarter Project Has Begun!

KantCon is 100% non-profit. We rely on ticket sales and donations to get it off the ground every year.  To help us do that, we’ve set up a Kickstarter page where you can pre-pre register.

Basically, by committing early, you get a bit of a discount and a variety of cool swag based on how much you pledge.

If you were at KantCon last year, you know it was awesome.  If you weren’t there, you should sign up now and come this year.  Spread the word!

Calling KantCon Volunteers

Please let us know if you’re interested in volunteering to help out at KantCon 2012! We’re trying to start to generate a list of people who will be available to work the show.

What do you get for volunteering? Our eternal gratitude, and the ability to get stuff only available to volunteers. As we run the show at cost, we can’t really afford to provide volunteers with free stuff, but what we can do is offer them stuff either at cost, or offer them stuff that only volunteers can get, like special dice, shirts, and the like. Just exactly what we’re offering is still a mystery even to me, but we are mainly wanting to expand our volunteer base to make this show the best possible show it can be!

So, please let us know if you want to volunteer to work some of the show, or have a special talent that we can use for KantCon!

You can either contact us on our forums, here, or let us know on Facebook if you want to be a volunteer!

Help KantCon Give Thanks to St. Jude

It’s not necessarily game-related, or really related to next year’s KantCon, but KantCon will be represented at the annual St. Jude’s Give Thanks Walk being held nationwide on November 19, 2011.

KantCon organizers Ethan Parker and Bethany Mullenax will be directly participating in the walk being held in Wichita, Kansas.

You can help KantCon and St. Jude fight cancer by either participating in a walk in your area, or donating to St. Jude’s through the Team KantCon page.

Help us raise funds and awareness for this great charity!

About St. Jude’s

St. Jude is unlike any other pediatric treatment and research facility. Discoveries made here have completely changed how the world treats children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases. With research and patient care under one roof, St. Jude is where some of today’s most gifted researchers are able to do science more quickly.

The mission of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is to advance cures, and means of prevention, for pediatric catastrophic diseases through research and treatment. Consistent with the vision of our founder Danny Thomas, no child is denied treatment based on race, religion or a family’s ability to pay.

Dates set for KantCon 2012

KantCon and Gamer’s Haven, Inc. are proud to announce that we have secured our dates for KantCon 2012!

KantCon 2012 will be held on July 6, 7, and 8, 2012 at the Johnson County Community College Regnier Center!

Join us on July 6, 7, and 8 next year between 8 a.m. and 11:30 p.m. to participate in three days of tabletop games including role-playing games, board games, card games, and miniatures games.

Stay tuned over the next several months so you can keep up to date on the events, volunteer information, and exiting new things happening in the world of KantCon!

My name is Ethan Parker, and I am the convention organizer for KantCon.

Now, to answer a few questions on KantCon.

2011 year was KantCon’s third year. In 2009, we had 25 people at KantCon, in 2010, we increased that number to 110 people. In 2011, we had an 82% increase in attendance, blowing away our expectations at 200 people! Going along those same lines, we are expecting to see an excess of 300 people attend in 2012.

KantCon’s focus is on tabletop games, and the major focus is driven by the volunteers running games. Usually this means we have a lot of board games and role-playing game events. We are continuing to try and get more of the miniatures gaming community involved in the convention, however. The con also offers open gaming space throughout the convention.

We would love having members of the game industry on hand, however we are a completely volunteer run, nonprofit convention. To this end, we keep the cost of attendance both for vendors and attendees to a minimum in order to cover as much of the cost as possible to run the show.

We are proud to say that we will not be raising our cost of attendance for KantCon 2012!

Our website at http://www.kantcon.com is going to be redesigned, but you can find some information on there. We are not only looking for vendors to attend, but also looking for potential sponsors of the show. KantCon is the ONLY summertime game convention in the Kansas City area with the broad focus of tabletop games.

There are several advertising opportunities avaialble at KantCon and through the Gamer’s Haven. If you know or are someone in the gaming industry who would like more information on our sponsorship and advertising packages, please contact us!

Throughout the convention, we will continue our tradition of raffling off prizes to lucky convention attendees, including the “KantCon Experience” basket, featuring prizes donated by attending vendors, supporting companies, and our awesome concession stand.
