Sponsoring KantCon 2012

KantCon is looking for companies and individuals to help sponsor our events through donations of funds, supplies, games, and food. In exchange for your generous donations we offer ad space in our onsite book, space in the con to display promotional materials, events with your name on them (Brought to you by…, etc.), our undying gratitude, links on this website, and the laughter and joy of hundreds of thankful gamers.

What is KantCon?

KantCon is a gaming convention for tabletop hobby gamers in the Kansas City area, created by tabletop hobby gamers in the Kansas City area. Until now, the only available gaming conventions and large gatherings of gamers in the Kansas City area were limited to the beginning and end of the year, in March and November, respectively. As most gamers are increasingly busy, in school, or have children, there is a void of a centralized gaming convention in the summer months in Kansas City.

KantCon has filled that void with three days of tabletop fun in the form of tabletop role-playing games, card games, board games, and miniatures games in a completely safe, family-friendly atmosphere.

The first KantCon was held in 2009 at a home in Shawnee, Kansas. It was an invitation-only event born out of the organizer’s inability to go to Gen Con, the largest gaming convention in the United States held every August in Indianapolis, Indiana.

The name KantCon was born from the inability to go to a gaming convention, hence “Can’t Con” and a love of the Kansas City area, hence “Kant Con” or “KC.”

Approximately 30 people came to KantCon 2009, and over $1,500 worth of products donated by participating gaming companies such as Wizards of the Coast, Rio Grande Games, Pinnacle Entertainment Group, and others were given away to the attendees over the course of the weekend. A variety of board games, card games, role-playing games, and miniatures games adorned the tables at KantCon 2009.

The next year, on July 9th, 10th, and 11th, KantCon 2010 was held at the Johnson County Community College brand new facility, the Regnier Center. Over the course of the three days, 110 gamers came from as far away as Mt. Gilead, Ohio to participate in role-playing games, card games, board games, miniatures games, and the kind of camaraderie that all gamers love and enjoy.

Over $3,000 worth of donated product from various game companies across the world were raffled off and awarded to players at the convention, supplemented by outstanding on-site vendors such as Gamer Ground from St. Louis, Secret Skeleton Miniatures from Lenexa, and Black Blade Publishing from Wichita.

The convention grew exponentially in 2011, with more than 75 events and a new, bakery-quality refreshments area provided by Three Sisters Creations. Over 200 people attended over the course of three days, a jump of 82% in attendance over 2010. Additionally, each and every vendor that was present at KantCon in 2010 joined us once again in 2011, with the addition of Silver Gryphon Games from South Dakota.

Now in its fourth year, KantCon 2012 will once again be held at the state-of-the-art Johnson County Community College Regnier Center on July 6th, 7th and 8th. We are estimating attendance in excess of 300 con-goers based on early registrations.

Sponsoring KantCon

We offer five levels of sponsorship to meet the budgets and desires of any potential sponsor. Levels stack upon one another, so a gold level sponsor receives the benefits of a silver level sponsor and so on.

Donations of products are welcome in lieu of funds. However, for purposes of Sponsorship Level determination and Reward the following conversion applies: Two dollars of product (retail value) equals one dollar of money. For example, a $40 boardgame would be valued as a $20 donation. Monetary donations equal their cash value ($1=$1).

Levels of KantCon Sponsorship

Sponsors at all levels may hang or distribute promotional material at KantCon (if you don’t attend the con we’ll distribute these things for you), submit items for inclusion on our swag bags, and will have a logo and/or weblink on this website. Sponsors are responsible for their own print-ready ads (300dpi, jpeg, full color) and logos.

COPPER – $25

In addition to the benefits described above, copper level sponsors may place a quarter page ad (4.25″ x 2.75″) in the KantCon onsite book.

SILVER – $50

Silver level sponsors gain a 1/2 page ad in our onsite book (4.25″x5.5″).

ELECTRUM – $100

The ad size for electrum level sponsors is a full page (8.5″x5.5″).

GOLD – $200

Gold level sponsors get a FULL PAGE ad in the onsite book (8.5″x5.5″). Additionally, you become the OFFICIAL SPONSOR of an event (KantCon Awards Ceremony, the Miniatures Paint-n-Take, KantCon SWAG Prizes, or the KantCon Costume Contest)

PLATINUM – $500

In addition to a FULL PAGE ad in the onsite book, platinum level sponsors will have their name associated as the OFFICIAL SPONSOR of an entire programming area (Gaming KantCon Kids Area, RPG Area, Board/Card Game Area, Miniatures Gaming Area, or Open Gaming Area). Platinum sponsors also receive a full color 2′x6′ vinyl banner to hang wherever they please and to keep after the show.

We at KantCon are extremely grateful for any donations and sponsorships. In return, we present a variety of promotional opportunities for our sponsors and friends, such as:

Onsite Book

The KantCon onsite book is distributed free to every KantCon attendee and is also available for free download on this website. It contains all sorts of useful and entertaining items, including a complete schedule of all events and games (at least those submitted prior to the printing of the book), information about our vendors and guests, games, short fiction, gaming material, and advertisements from our sponsors and friends. The onsite book is 8.5″x5.5″ and is printed in full color. Ads should be submitted via email in 300dpi jpg format.

The KantCon event areas provide plenty of space for the display of posters and other hanging ads. Any sponsor is free to hang ads throughout the con (except in areas or events hosted by another sponsor).

Several tables and wall panels throughout the convention space are reserved for the display of free promotional material from anybody who wants to put it there.

KantCon Website

Vendors for KantCon 2012 Announced

As usual, KantCon will play host to a number of gaming vendors, and we’re proud to say that each and every vendor that has joined us in 2010 and 2011 will be returning this year, with a new addition to the KantCon family … Greater Than Games!

So, without further ado, here is the final list of vendors that will be present at KantCon 2012:

Black Blade Publishing are the current publishers of OSRIC, the Old School Roleplaying  and Index Compilation.  Allan J. Grohe Jr., co-founder of Black Blade Publishing, LLC – Allan has been playing D&D and other rpgs since 1977. Allan’s first professional gaming publication (“More for the Shadow Master”) appeared in White Wolf Magazine #11 in 1987; he has also contributed to The Unspeakable OathPyramidPolyhedron, and Dragon Magazine, among others. Allan was a co-founder of Event Horizon Productions, and has worked extensively with Biohazard Games (Blue Planet), Pagan Publishing (Call of Cthulhu publisher of Delta Green), Different Worlds Publications (Tadashi Ehara), and Pied Piper Publishing (Robert J. Kuntz). More-recent projects include editing OSRIC version 1.0 as well as Mythmere Games’ Tomb of the Iron God. Allan’s editorial and development work has contributed to winning one Origins Award, securing four Origins Award nominations, and two ENnie Award nominations.

Gamer Ground is a friendly small game retailer from St. Louis, MO.  They specialize in board games, RPG’s, Magic cards, minis, dice, gaming supplies, and more.   Started as an actual store, this mom and pop shop(literally) had to close its doors a couple years ago for more time to raise their 2 kids. They now focus solely on dealing at midwest conventions.

Secret Skeleton Miniatures independently produces 25mm fantasy miniatures which are distributed exclusively through Center Stage Miniatures online store. We offer a growing product range of fantasy monsters with new releases on the horizon.

Silver Gryphon Games is the creative exploration of Ben Overmyer and Kevin Rohan. These two company founders have a total of nearly 30 years of gaming experience with an amazing array of systems, styles, and rules. With experiences ranging from war gaming to diceless systems to traditional board games and CCGs, Ben and Kevin possess incredible background and familiarity with the industry.

Greater Than Games is all about making the games that we have always wanted to play.  We love playing games, and we love our ridiculous process of game creation.  The most important thing to us is making the sorts of games we want to play available to everyone.  Our first product here at >G is Sentinels of the Multiverse, a cooperative card game in which 3 to 5 players control a team of super powered heroes battling a dastardly villain.  Sentinels of the Multiverse, or SotM, provides players with an innovative, streamlined game play experience that is easy to learn but requires strategic, team-based thinking.  The game comes with ten different heroes, allowing players to build myriad hero teams and find new ways to challenge the villains.  There are four different villains, each with unique mechanics and challenges, and four dynamic environments in which the battles take place.  This flexibility adds enormous replay value and ensures that no two SotM games will play the same.

Three Sisters Creations will be on hand to provide tasty treats and snacks for convention attendees.  They were present last year, and this year they will continue the tradition of fine baked goods, as well as supervising the all new KantCon Meal Plan.  Help support KantCon by buying treats and snacks from Three Sisters Creations!

$7,000 Kickstarter Goal Achieved!

I know we’re a bit late on announcing it, but we did hit our $7,000 stretch reward, which was changed at the last minute from the plastic cups to the backpacks!  Therefore, we will have exclusive KantCon backpacks for all the folks who pledged $50 or more to support KantCon 2012!  This was the only way to get these bags, so we thank everyone who supported the KantCon Kickstarter this year!
