KantCon Pre-Pre-Registration D6 Revealed!

As you all probably know, the KantCon Pre-Pre-Registration is going on now!

One of the reasons why registering through this Pre-Pre-Registration method on Kickstarter is in your best interest, is that you will get more cool free stuff when you come to KantCon!  Not only will you get all the stuff you’d normally get when you pre-register, like a swag bag with comics, dice, and other goodies, but you’ll also have the chance to get more raffle tickets for the mountain of prizes we will be giving away this year.

Last year, we gave away over $3,000 worth of products!

This yearm if you use the Pre-Pre-Registration method, you won’t have to pay anything until the end of April, when the program ends (as long as we hit our $2,000 goal), and it’s also the only way you can get things like the KantCon Exclusive Pre-Pre-Registration D6!

The D6, made by The Dice Creators Blog and designed by Jay Carter at Fleurish Design, will be a d6 “mood” die featuring none other than the KantCon mascott, the Jabbergluck!

So, if you need a random way to determine how your NPC is going to react to someone, give this d6 a roll and see if he’s scared, helpful, hostile, unfriendly, indifferent, or friendly.  Check out the image below to see the “Scared” face!

Jabbergluck is Scared! So what are you waiting for?  Join the others who have pledged $50 or more and get in on some of this cool stuff!

Help us reach our goal so YOU get cool free stuff!

Pre-Pre-Registration Open on Kickstarter, Twitter, and Facebook!

Help us reach our goal so YOU get cool free stuff! On July 9-11, KantCon 2010 was held at the Johnson County Community College Regnier Center. Over the course of the three days, 110 gamers came from as far away as Mt. Gilead, Ohio to participate in role-playing games, card games, board games, miniatures games, and the kind of camaraderie that all gamers love and enjoy.

Over $3,000 worth of donated product from various game companies across the world were raffled off and awarded to players at the convention, supplemented by vendors like Gamer Ground in St. Louis, Missouri, Secret Skeleton Miniatures from Lenexa, Kansas, and Black Blade Publishingfrom Wichita, Kansas who came out and sold miniatures, dice, books, and other products to convention attendees.

All throughout the convention, we will be giving away fabulous prizes donated by some of the top gaming companies in the industry. A giveaway schedule will be posted each day, and giveaways will generally take place between slots. You must be present to win a prize, and if you’re not there, your name will go back into the box for a chance to be drawn again later.

If you pre-register for KantCon, you will automatically receive a few SWAG Tickets that will serve as your chance to win some of our groovy prizes. However, if you register at the door, you don’t get any!

By registering ahead of time through this Kickstarter project, you will have the chance to get more tickets, which means a greater chance to win prizes from all kinds of companies (which we will announce as we negotiate prizes with them).

SWAG tickets can be purchased at the convention, however, if you want to increase your chances of winning! They cost $1 each.

We’ll be using this Kickstarter project as a sort of Pre-Pre-Registration to allow those who want to support KantCon early to get cool stuff, and to help out a local convention. By pledging additional funds, and backing KantCon 2011, not only will you have the opportunity to win a number of great prizes through the additional raffle tickets at the convention, but you will be able to get some exclusive merchandise only available through this pre-pre-registration program.

Anyone who pledges $10 or more gets at least a one-day pass to the convention itself. Those who pledge $25 or more will be admitted to the convention for all three days, July 8, 9, and 10.

You will also be able to get the following exclusive items through this program:

  • Personalized Forum Title – a personalized forum title on The Gamer’s Haven Podcast Forums.
  • Shoutout on the Gamer’s Haven Podcast – We will; be listing out and naming everyone that pledges $25 or more on the Gamer’s Haven Podcast.
  • Custom Pre-Pre-Registration D6 – a custom six-sided die printed up by the folks over at The DiceCreatorsBlog for those who pledge $50 or more.
  • KantCon Beer Mug – An exclusive 15 oz. glass beer mug for those who pledge $75 or more.
  • Interview on the Gamer’s Haven Podcast – you will get a personal interview with the Gamer’s Haven Podcast host Ethan to be aired on the show. Talk about what makes you a gaming geek.
  • Profile on the Gamer’s Haven Podcast – We’ll be happy to talk all about you on the Gamer’s Haven Podcast in depth – a personalized profile on who you are and your gaming history. We’ll even tell everyone about your favorite character!
  • Mini, Medium, and Large Dice Bags and Dice – Our resident dice bag creator, Angela, will be making some custom, hand-made dice bags in various sizes, and we’ll even throw some random dice in it for you. These bags are very nice!
  • Special Custom Award – During the KantCon Awards ceremony on Sunday, July 10, you will be presented with a special award for your dedication and pledge to KantCon 2011.
  • Custom KantCon Event – Name a game, and we’ll make an event for it, with a special spot reserved just for you!
  • Pick Tracy’s Tattoo – Finally, our Road Warrior from last year, Tracy, will be putting his own skin on the line, and you get to choose his next tattoo. As Tracy is going into teaching, there are some restrictions, of course, but he’s a good sport. The tattoo will be put on his body sometime in the year between KantCon 2011 and KantCon 2012. The purchaser of the tier will pick the tattoo but Tracy will pick the size and location of said tattoo. The tattoo must be something related to tabletop RPGs. Tracy will be funding the tattoo but if the purchaser of the tier wishes to contribute, it would not be unwelcome.

A few things to note about this Pre-Pre-Registration, however.  If, by the end of 90 days we have not raised at least $2,000 in pledges, then NONE of these nifty goodies will be available, and everyone will have to pre-register normally.  This Pre-Pre-Registration method is the ONLY way you can get all this stuff.

And, of course, if you’re not a listener or a frequenter of the Gamer’s Haven Podcast, some of these incentives may seem a little lackluster.  Those incentives are, of course, optional, and you may decline any interviews, shout-outs, or forum monikers if you so desire.

Also to be clear, at the end of 90 days, on April 26th, at the end of the Kickstarter Pre-Pre-Registration, you will be charged the amount you have pledged.  If we fall short of the $2,000 goal, you will be charged nothing.  Take a minute to look at the Kickstarter FAQ to see what it all means.

On top of all this, you can also now find us on Twitter and we also posted a Facebook event for KantCon 2011!

KantCon 2011 Dates Set

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (January 13, 2011) – KantCon is a new gaming convention for tabletop hobby gamers in the Kansas City area, created by Ethan Parker in 2009.  Scheduled to take place on July 8, 9, and 10 at the Johnson County Community College Regnier Center beginning at 9 a.m. and ending at 11 p.m. each day, KantCon is a new summertime non-gambling gaming convention created by Kansas City gamers for Kansas City gamers.

“I’ve been living in Kansas almost all my life, and I’ve always wanted a summertime gaming activity that I could do with friends, family, and meet new people in the Kansas City area who share my love of tabletop gaming,” Ethan Parker said.

Parker is a student at the University of Missouri Kansas City, and a Johnson County Community College alum who wants to bring the business generated by conventions like Gen Con and Dragon Con to the Kansas City area.

“Gen Con is held in Indianapolis, and brought over 30,000 people there at the beginning of August.  It’s the second largest convention in Indianapolis, and dumps millions of dollars to their economy every year.  I want that for Kansas City,” Parker said.

When Parker couldn’t go to Gen Con in 2009, the first time in 13 years he couldn’t attend, he decided to throw his own convention with a small gathering of friends for three days.  The event was so successful that he decided to open it to the public in 2010, moving it to the new Regnier Center at Johnson County Community College.

“The venue is perfect.  Since we run KantCon in the summer, the facility is mostly unused, so it brings business to JCCC.  They also have ample parking and are happy to accommodate a local event like this,” Parker said.

KantCon is run strictly as a non-profit event, charging those who pre-register only $10 a day to attend, or $25 if you buy a three-day pass.  You can get in at the door for $12 a day, or $30 for a three-day pass.  This revenue goes towards the cost to run the event, and that’s all.  The rest of the event is run by volunteers and Parker himself.

KantCon organizers worked with gaming companies like Wizards of the Coast, publishers of Dungeons & Dragons, and other companies to generate over $3,000 in prizes to hand out at KantCon 2010, and this support will continue for KantCon 2011.

“We provide many prizes, and raffle off a lot of gaming and comic merchandise.  We also give out free stuff to those who attend, and we offer refreshments to convention attendees.  We’re really trying to make this a family-event that gamers can come to every year and enjoy this hobby,” Parker said.

About Gamer’s Haven:  Gamer’s Haven, Inc. is a nonprofit, Kansas City-based corporation dedicated to providing gamers of all kinds with a place where they can feel welcome and feel comfortable sharing views on gaming.  It was formed to promote and organize KantCon as well as additional gaming events for the Kansas City community.  More information is available at www.gamershavenpodcast.com.
